Pashupatinath – Hindu Temple in Nepal

Pashupatinath is said to be one of the most significant Hindu temple in Nepal. It’s frequented both by Indian devotees and of course by foreign tourists. Pashupatinath is just a stone throw away from the airport of Tribhuvan and if you’re coming from Thamel you can just take a bus going to Boudha and just let the driver know that you want to alight at Pashupatinath you could also just take a taxi which of course is the easiest way to get to any place in Kathmandu.

If you’re coming from Boudha, you can take a bus going to Ratna Park and just tell the driver that you’re going to alight at Pashupatinath. A lot of people just walk from Boudha to Pashupatinath passing through a string of small villages. It also involves a short hike uphill which is quite steep at some point so be careful when you take this path.

We walked from Boudha to Pashupatinath and the first thing I noticed once I got to Pashupatinath was the huge gathering of family members who were there to cremate a a love one. If you enter this place via the main gate then you’ll see on your left side the place where they prepare the bodies before bringing them to the left side of the temple grounds to be cremated.

There’s also a bridge across the narrow Bagmati River that would bring you to were most Sadhus hang out. If you also climb the stairs you would see the Deer Park and other interesting structures on top of Pashupatinath.

When we were, we also saw a small ritual being held in one of the temples where they made an animal offering. Once you cross the bridge to the other side, you’ll see many small stupa where most Sadhus congregate. Once you climb up, you’ll see almost the entirety of the temple complex.

Further up is also like a small park where most locals hang out and it’s also where you could find the Deer Park. The deers are freely roaming in one enclosed area. I don’t know though if you can enter this area but you’ll definitely see them through the wire fence. When you walk further uphill and you pass by the Hindu Temple, you’ll see a nice view of Boudha area.
